Sleek and sophisticated staged garden with stunning slate water feature for family and friends
As part of the total renovation of a 1930s house in Hampstead Garden Suburb, the owners wanted a garden to enjoy from within the house with plenty of space for entertaining, leisure and play for their two young daughters.
Clean lines, generous steps and crisp retaining walls are designed to maximise space as the garden spans the basement before ascending steeply. Terraces and planting beds are balanced proportionally around the central oak tree. Re-constituted Portland stone contrasts with a tactile Delabole slate wall, over which water slips gently into the fishpond below. A simple stone and painted wood gazebo is positioned to catch the evening sun.
Ivy walls enclose the garden and box hedging and balls provide evergreen structure. The new planting in purples, pinks and whites includes herbs, edible flowers, sun loving planting to the gazebo and a lush, shade tolerant scheme to wrap the garden to the rear.
